Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete

Genre Publisher Developer Release Date
RPG Working Designs Game Arts 12/2000

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete (which during this article will be referred to as EBC) is the Re-maked Sequel to Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (which during this article will be referred to as SSSC). Some of the same characters still play a role in the game, but unlike most games, the one thing I like about it, is that it continues the events of the first lunar but with a different group of characters.

Its an improvement over SSSC because it has more of a cleaner look. The areas, the character design, it just looks good and the anime cut scenes really put the icing on the cake on this title. I like how the music isn’t that bad compared to the CD (a difference between the two lunars is that this one, the CD soundtrack contains a lot more music from the game than the first one…the first one contained remastered tracks from Lunar SSS) All though I still was a little disappointed when it came to the big showdown with Zophar. (Yes, I will admit the Soundtrack CD is the reason why…when you hear the CD version and the game version, you’ll understand)

The menu has been cleaned up and functions better in this game vs. SSSC, but everything else, basically remains the same control wise. The one thing that I think most people can tell right off the back is that compared to SSSC, the bosses’ stats are the same no mater what level you are o as well as the fact that if you fight the boss long enough, or just happen to have the ‘strategy guide’ you’ll learn that each boss does a certain attack depending on their stance. I find this cheap and makes a boss battle too predictable because if you know what the boss is going to do, you know how to easily counter attack it, or prepare a strong defense. I would say that this game has a nice playback value because the game is spanned onto 3 discs and is a good few hours longer.

Overall…….it is still a good game, and another remarkable product from Working Designs.
